Of approximately 25.5 million automobiles in South Korea in 2022, over twelve million burned gasoline as fuel, while another 9.76 million had diesel engines. The share of gasoline and LPG-fueled vehicles decreased slightly when compared to six years ago, while the number of environmentally-friendly hybrid, electric, and hydrogen vehicles increased.
This is in part due to the government's Green Car initiative and construction of hydrogen refueling stations. Ongoing environmental issues, such as the particulate matter coming from China and polluting Korean skies, have also changed the way Koreans perceive environmental issues, stimulating greater interest in the environment.
