Online cheating incidents reported in India 2022, by leading state

In 2022, the state of Telangana in India recorded the highest number of cyber crimes specifically related to cheating with around 4.4 thousand cases registered with the authorities. Maharashtra came second with over 3.4 thousand cases of cyber cheating that year. Overall, there were over 10.5 thousand cases reported across the country. This category of crime came under the purview of Sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
