Necessity of Soviet troops in Afghanistan in 1979 according to Russians 1991-2019
The share of Russians believing that it was necessary to send troops from the USSR to Afghanistan increased significantly since 1991, reaching 25 percent at the end of 2019. Moreover, in April 2019, 37 percent of Russians were of the opinion that the military interference in the Syrian conflict could escalate into a 'new Afghanistan' for Russia.
