In 2021, German police recorded around 1.48 million cases of theft crime in the country. These included 54,236 cases of burglary with housebreaking. Theft crimes were among the most reported in Germany.

The sum of individual criminal offences or offence groups does not provide the total number of criminal offences recorded in 2021 (5,047,860), as some criminal offences were related to more than one group of crimes. For example, computer fraud is related to both fraud and computer crimes.
Figures displayed for respective years refer to crimes which became known to and were processed by police, including attempts threatened with a penalty and drug-related offences processed by customs. Statistical records follows submissions to the prosecutor’s office (baseline statistic).
