Viewing time of TV and video on demand services in Finland 2020, by age group

A survey from 2019/2020 found that the majority of population (83 percent) in Finland spent their TV and video viewing time watching broadcast TV, while the total online services viewing time remained below 20 percent. However, younger age groups between three and 24 years increasingly use advertising-based (AVoD) or subscription video on demand (SVoD) services. Especially older groups of 45 year-olds and above mainly watch broadcast television instead of online services.

"The peoplemeter approach is a continuous 24-hour measurement of in-home viewing from a long term panel of households, which is equipped with metering devices to monitor changes in set status and viewer appearance. The meter uses a remote control, with each member of the family having his or her own push button on the remote control. A meter is installed to each TV set in the household."

"TV-viewing on all channels, online-viewing (vod + simulcast) to tagged players (Yle Areena-, Mtv-palvelu/C More and Ruutu/Ruutu+) was monitored. Netflix, YT ja HBO viewing was measured in in-home wifi only."
