In 2021, Antioquia was the Colombian department with the highest number of femicides, with a total of 109 women having been murdered on account of their gender. Valle del Cauca came in second, with 75 femicides reported. These two regions made up for approximately one third of all femicides registered in Colombia that year. In most cases, the femicide perpetrator was not an acquaintance of the victim.
