Rates of COVID-19 cases in New York City as of December 22, 2022, by borough

Of the five boroughs of New York City, Stanten Island has the highest rate of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people. Brooklyn – the most populous borough – has around 36,008 cases per 100,000 people, and only Manhattan has a lower case rate.

Brooklyn hit hard by COVID-19

Towards the middle of December 2022, there had been almost 6.37 million positive infections in New York State, and Kings was the county with the highest number of coronavirus cases. Kings County, which has the same boundaries as the borough of Brooklyn, had also recorded the highest number of deaths due to the coronavirus in New York State. Since the start of the pandemic in the U.S., densely populated neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens have been severely affected, and government leaders across New York State have had to find solutions to some unprecedented challenges.
