Number of elderly non-working households Singapore 2012-2021
In 2021, there were 98.6 thousand households in Singapore whose members were senior citizens aged 65 years and above who where unemployed. As Singapore faces the challenge of an ageing population, many senior citizens are increasingly facing the need to work longer or re-renter the workforce after retirement in order to support themselves, amongst other reasons. In 2019, it was announced that the legal retirement age would be raised from 62 years to 65 years by 2030.
