Weekly death toll in Belgium 2018-2020

Belgium's death toll during the coronavirus outbreak was higher than in previous years. Indeed, towards the end of March 2020, the number of deaths that occurred weekly in Belgium were significantly higher than the deaths that occurred during the same week one or two years before. For instance, from April 6 to April 12, 2020, over 4,000 deaths were registered, whereas roughly 2,000 were reported during the same week in 2018 and 2019. While not all deaths are linked to COVID-19, the pandemic was undeniably visible in mortality rates.
