Number of students enrolled in tertiary education in China 1990-2022
In 2022, the number of students enrolled in degree programs at all kinds of public institutions of tertiary education in China reached around 46.55 million. Based on this figure, the gross enrollment rate in tertiary education in China grew to around 59.6 percent that same year. In 1990, only 3.8 million students had been studying at the same level of education. When counting only undergraduate students enrolled at public colleges and universities in China, enrollment numbers reached around 34.96 million in 2021.
