Number of foreign trainee employers that violated labor standards Japan 2012-2021
The total number of businesses that were found to have violated labor standards regarding the employment of foreign technical intern trainees in Japan amounted to approximately 6.5 thousand in 2021. Along with the number of inspected companies for the matter, the number of companies found to be guilty of violations strongly increased since 2013 on a steady upward trend, except for 2019 when both inspections and convictions spiked to an all-time high but then returned to a level that was more congruent with the previous developments in the following years. While some companies came under scrutiny due to past violations, others were inspected because of tipoffs from workers.
