Foreign trainee employers that violated labor standards Japan 2021, by issue
The total number of businesses in Japan that were found to have violated safety standards regarding the employment of foreign technical intern trainees amounted to approximately 2.2 thousand in 2021. Violations of overtime payment regulations were also a common issue, with around 1.4 thousand cases being identified during that year. Both the number of inspected companies and the number of companies found to be guilty of violations steadily increased since 2013. While some companies came under scrutiny due to past violations, others were inspected because of tipoffs from workers.
