Number of river cruise passengers in Amsterdam (Netherlands) 2009-2018
The number of passengers increased over the period between 2009 and 2016. In fact, river cruise passengers in 2016 reached 467 thousand, increasing from approximately 233 thousand in 2009. However, in 2017 and 2018 it decreased to roughly 407 and 406 thousand passengers, respectively. Furthermore, as of 2019 the municipality of Amsterdam implemented a tourist tax for cruise passengers. To avoid such taxes, cruise companies did not moor in Amsterdam but arrived at other harbors in the Netherlands, such as Rotterdam for example. This could have an impact on 2019, although no figures were available as of now.
