Support for contactless payment cards in Hungary 2012-2019
At the end of 2019, Hungary issued nearly eight million payment cards with a contactless function which together took up roughly 85 percent of all payment cards. POS terminals that accepted these cards stayed relatively stable at over 80 percent, indicating that contactless payment seem to have become widely accepted within the Central European country. Contactless card acceptancy accelerated somewhat in 2015, then reaching over half of all issued payment cards.
