Legal abortions in Chile 2022, by cause and location
In 2022, a total of 725 pregnancies were legally terminated at a public health establishment in Chile. Out of the total, 294 abortion procedures were performed because the fetus suffered from an acquired or genetic congenital pathology due to which it would be unable to survive after birth. In the same period, other 94 pregnancies were terminated in private establishments. Most women in Chile who legally terminated their pregnancies that year, did so because of fetus nonviability.
