Global consumer interest in in-store product research features 2019, by region

In 2019, over 80 percent of APAC consumers stated they would use an app on their phone in order to research products in-store. Consumers in the Asia Pacific region were overall more likely to be interested in using forms of retail technology while in a retail store than their European or American counterparts.

Favored payment methods among consumers

In 2019, an estimated 60 percent of consumers across the globe preferred swiping a credit or debit card in order to pay for goods in-store, making it the favorite cashless payment method that year. Approximately a third of consumers liked the contactless (card payment) approach. In Europe, just over ten percent of consumers favored banking mobile/online applications that same year.

In-store technology implementation

Many retailers in the United States plan to improve their services by implementing new in-store technology resources. In 2020, about 15 percent of U.S. retail executive respondents stated that they planned to implement mobile checkout services for consumers within the next 36 months. Mobile devices were planned to be provided to managers by roughly a third of U.S. retailers within the next year.
