A study from December 2020 analyzed the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on international and domestic tourist arrivals in selected Italian cities in 2020. According to the research, Venice could register the highest drop, as tourist arrivals are expected to decrease by 71.5 percent over the previous year. In particular, international tourist arrivals are estimated to go down by roughly 66 percent. Florence followed on the list, recording the second-highest drop in international arrivals. Overall, it is forecast that tourist arrivals in Italy could go down by almost 60 percent in 2020 over 2019.
