Greenhouse gas emissions from medium and heavy-duty trucks in the U.S. 1990-2021
Medium and heavy-duty trucks are a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector in the U.S., accounting for more than 23 percent of the total in 2021. Only light-duty trucks have a larger share, at 37.1 percent. In 2021, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the Clean Trucks Plan – a series of regulations that aims to slash GHG emissions and air pollution from heavy-duty trucks.
