Transportation-related hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) emissions in the United States totaled 31.24 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2021. Although transport HFC emissions have experienced an overall increase relative to 1992 levels, they have fallen by roughly 52 percent since 2008. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are human-made greenhouse gases that are often used as a substitute for ozone-depleting substances in air conditioning, refrigeration, and other applications.
