Largest life insurance companies in Sweden 2023, by market share

In early 2023, the largest life insurance company in Sweden was Folksam. Based on premium income, this company held a market share of roughly 12.3 percent. The life insurance company with the second-highest market share during that period was Alecta, followed by Skandia and Avanza.

 Folksam

    Folksam operates both within the life and non-life insurance business, however, the main product of the insurance company is life insurance. Most of the company’s total premium income was generated from life insurance. Folksam’s premium income peaked in 2019.

 Non-life insurance companies 

   In terms of premium income, the largest non-life insurance company in Sweden was Länsförsäkringar in 2022. Länsförsäkringar does not feature in the list of the top 10 Swedish life insurers by premium income.
