From 2014 to 2019, the revenue per available room (RevPAR) of hotels in Milan increased overall. In 2014, the RevPAR of hotels in this Italian city reached about 83 euros. In 2015, it rose sharply to 108 euros. On this year, the city hosted the Milan Expo 2015, a large international exposition including 145 countries. In 2016, the RevPAR went down to 90 euros, then increased gradually during the following years. Eventually, it peaked at roughly 109 euros in 2019. The revenue per available room is a metric used in the hotel industry to understand the profitability of an accommodation. It is calculated by dividing the total revenues with the total number of available rooms in a specific period of time.
