After the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the federal ban on sports betting in the United States in May 2018, various states have legalized, or introduced legislation to legalize, the sports betting industry. While there are still some states that are yet to legalize sports betting, the public seems to generally support the pastime. According to a 2019 survey, 55 percent of respondents were not in favor of professional sports leagues getting a cut of the amount wagered on sports. Comparatively, 23 percent of respondents were in favor of this.
