Number of Lassa fever cases in Nigeria 2019-2022
Lassa fever is a hemorrhagic illness whose presence is known in several West African countries. The virus is particularly present in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria. According to the World Health Organization, 80 percent of the people affected by the Lassa virus have no symptoms. The transmission to humans occurs by exposure to food or items contaminated with urine or feces of infected rats (Mastomys).
