COVID-19: Opinions on the return of the Premier League 2020, by NRS social grade
On June 17th 2020, English Premier League football resumed after having been placed on hold as part of the ongoing COVID-19 containment measures. During a representative survey of the British adult population, undertaken between the 3rd and 4th June 2020, respondents were asked their opinion on the appropriateness of the return of the English Premier League (EPL) at this time.
The responses to this survey have subsequently been categorized into into two groups characterized by the NRS social grades of the respondents. The NRS social grades are a system of demographic classification used in the United Kingdom. The grades are grouped here into ABC1 and C2DE; these are taken to equate to middle class and working class, respectively.
Although the greatest share from both categories of respondents held the opinion that the 17th June was 'too soon' for the Premier league to resume, 28 of ABC1 respondents and 24 percent of C2DE respondents indicated that this was 'about the right time' for its return.
