Fortnite is a hugely popular battle royale game which pits up to 100 players against each other in a fight to the death. The game is played by amateur and professional players alike, with the top players competing in tournaments across the world. Having burst onto the scene in 2017, Fortnite has since become a worldwide phenomenon, amassing more than 350 million players across the globe. The cumulative tournament prize pool for Fortnite competitions stood at just over 20 million U.S. dollars in 2018 and is expected to reach 150 million U.S. dollars by 2023.
