According to a survey on online shopping in China, the usage of live streaming e-commerce grew by 6.3 percent among respondents during the COVID-19 outbreak. Meanwhile, shopping via short videos increased by 2.6 percent compared to before the pandemic. Douyin (known as Tik Tok globally) and Kuaishou were two popular short video platforms among Chinese online shoppers.

The survey was conducted among respondents who were:
50 percent female and 50 percent male;
Eight percent under 18 years old, 27 percent between 18 and 25 years old, 18 percent between 26 and 30 years, 14 percent between 31 and 35 years, 12 percent between 36 and 40 years;
27 percent from first-tier cites, 27 percent from second-tier cities, 27 percent from third-tier cities and 19 percent from fourth-tier cities.
