Change in rent for single rooms in Italian university cities 2020

Renting single rooms in Italian cities is becoming more and more expensive. This is especially true in those cities which host one or more universities, thus attracting a great number of students. This statistic shows the percentage change in monthly rent in 2020 compared to 2019 in 14 different cities. For the first time in years, most university cities in the list registered a decrease in monthly rents compared to the previous years. The lockdown imposed in March 2020 to curb the spread of COVID-19, in fact, pushed many students to flee their hosting cities and return home, resulting in a steep increase in rooms' supply. Therefore, even cities like Rome, Bologna and Milan, which rents have been increasing dramatically in the last years, experienced a contraction in single rooms rents in 2020.
