GMV of online media market Thailand 2015-2025

In 2019, the gross merchandise volume (GMV) of Thailand's online media market amounted to approximately three billion U.S. dollars and was forecasted to reach seven billion dollars by 2025. In addition, the CAGR of Thailand's online media market was expected to grow 24 percent from 2015 to 2025.

Traditional media and entertainment

Traditional media was once a luxury for Thai households. Previously, televisions and radio were highly sought after for domestic entertainment in Thailand. Today, the Thai traditional audiovisual industry has decreased in importance, proven by the decreasing consumption in the traditional audiovisual media among consumers since 2012. Newspaper is another example of the decreasing popularity of such media. In 2020, the value of newspaper advertising spend in Thailand was forecasted to reduce by almost half of the amount generated in 2019.

Digitalization in the media

As the number of internet users in Thailand keep increasing, amounting to around fifty million users in 2019, the transformation of traditional media to digital media also develops. As seen in the drastic change of the online audiovisual consumption in Thailand between 2012 and 2020, online media such as online video, digital music, and streaming platforms are surely taking on the traditional media in the country.
