Response of smokers to cigarette smoking bans Japan 2019

According to a survey conducted in December 2019 in Japan, almost 40 percent of smokers planned to adapt to the amendments in the Health Promotion Act regarding passive smoking by consuming cigarettes only if they passed by a smoking area by chance. The respondents claimed that they would not actively look for a place where they would be allowed to smoke.
The amendments to the Health Promotion Act in Japan started in July 2018 and was scheduled to be completed by April 2020 prior to the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The bill prohibits smoking in public facilities, offices as well as most restaurants and public areas.
