Number of tourists on tours from South Korea to Mount Kumgang North Korea 1998-2008

In 2007, more than 345 thousand visitors came to the Mount Kumgang Tourist Region in North Korea on a tour from South Korea. The tours were suspended when a South Korean tourist passed away after being shot by a North Korean soldier in July 2008. While the South Korean program has been suspended, international visitors can still travel to the region by visiting North Korea.
