Venture capital investments in the Netherlands 2007-2021, by sector
In 2021, the financial services sector overtook biotechnology and healthcare as the most common business sector for venture capital investments in the Netherlands. Reaching a value of over 630 million euros, investments into financial services were almost six times higher than in the previous year. Venture capital mostly refers to money invested into young companies that are not listed on the stock exchange. Start-up investments are the most known part of this, but this can also include (angel) seed investments or early stage ventures. Typically, Amsterdam is considered to have a smaller startup scene than other European capital cities.
