Most valuable e-commerce companies in China 2020

In 2020, Alibaba remained the most valuable e-commerce company in China, with an estimated company value of about 4.1 trillion yuan. The O2O(online-to-offline) service leader Meituan-Dianping beat to become the second most valuable e-commerce company in China. Valued at about 21 billion yuan, the online-to-offline fresh products delivery platform Missfresh was also listed on the most valuable e-commerce companies that year.

Time is money

The food delivery service giant Meituan-Dianping surely understands what the famous Chinese saying “time is money” means. Targeted at the busy urban population, in 2017, Meituan-Dianping launched its errand running service. From delivering a document to getting a pack of cigarettes, the errand runner will do a wide range of things for the clients for a small amount of commission. In 2019, Meituan-Dianping generated more than 20 billion yuan from its new initiatives segment.

Fresh food on demand

The global COVID-19 pandemic boosted the development of fresh food e-commerce. Instead of queuing in supermarkets or grocery stores, consumers could simply place their orders online. The fresh fruits and vegetables they ordered are then delivered within one hour. The size of the fresh e-commerce market in China was estimated to be nearly 400 billion yuan by the end of 2020 and double in the next three years.
