A large majority of direct lending in the Netherlands in 2019 touched on relatively small loans of less than 50,000, although the number of much larger investments did show an increase. Direct lending is a form of alternative corporate finance, where investors (not banks) directly loan money to companies. This practically means that several investors work together by investing money in a particular fund, which will then act as a moneylender to entrepreneurs. Note, however, that the size of direct lending is relatively small in the Netherlands and little data is available so far on this topic. There was no information available on, for example, years prior to 2018.
