Households connected to electricity in Tanzania 2017-2018, by area

Mostly, households in Tanzania connected to electricity from 2017 to 2018 were concentrated in urban areas. Six in ten (63.2 percent) households in urban areas had access to electricity as source of energy for lighting, while in the rural areas, this number dropped to one in ten (10.4 percent) households. In the entire country, around 29 percent of households were connected to electricity. In 2018, Tanzania was among the 15 countries with the biggest share of population with low access to electricity (36 percent), while the global average was 90 percent.
