The digital literacy index of Russian university teachers reached 88 percent in 2018. Among the index components, the lowest share was recorded for the attitude towards technological innovations at 78 percent. A similar pattern was observed for school teachers. Most university teachers demonstrated a high level of information and computer literacy, measured at 94 and 91 percent, respectively.

According to the source, the digital literacy index was calculated using the following indicators: Information literacy is the understanding of the role and the influence of information on a person's life. The main skill is the ability to search and find information using different resources. Computer literacy is the understanding of technical issues, computer components, and principles of their interaction. The main skill is the ease of using devices regardless of the platform / interface. Communication literacy is the understanding of the difference between digital communications and live communication. The main skill is the ability to use modern tools of communication (social networks, messengers). Media literacy is the understanding of the diversity of information sources, forms, and channels of its dissemination. The main skill is the ability to search for news in different sources, check for their comprehensiveness and accuracy. Attitude towards technological innovations is the understanding of technological trends. The main skill is the readiness to work with new technologies (apps, gadgets).
