As of 2019/2020, the aggregate commercial production of soya beans in South Africa amounted to roughly 1.24 million metric tons. Free state was responsible for most of the production with 504 thousand metric tons, which is approximately 40.5 percent of the overall production, whereas Mpumalanga's share totaled 34.5 percent. Out of the nine states, Western Cape ranked last with a production that is nil or negligible.
