Coronavirus impact on funeral services at temples Japan 2020
According to a survey conducted in May 2020, close to 89 percent of employees at temples in Japan stated that the number of mourners at the funerals they carried out decreased after the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Around 41 percent reported that the funerals were more simplified compared to before the outbreak. An example for this development was the increase in the number of one-day funerals instead of common funerals, which take a minimum of two days in total.
