According to a survey conducted in March 2022 in Japan, 28 percent of respondents received less than 100 thousand Japanese yen in total as condolatory money from attendees at funeral services for their deceased family members. In a customary procedure of funeral services in Japan, attendees provide condolatory money to the family. The amount of money contributed differs based on the age of the attendees and the relationship with the deceased and the family.
