Sweden: family reunification residence permits 2022

The total number of residence permits granted for family reunification in Sweden decreased over the past four years. Whereas nearly 45,000 permits were granted in 2018, only 21,000 were granted in 2022, meaning that less than half as many residence permits were granted compared to four years before. In 2022, around 18,000 of the residence permits granted on the grounds of family reunification in Sweden came under the category other grounds . Meanwhile, 2,600 were granted on refugee or asylum grounds. The most common ground for receiving a residence permit in Sweden in 2021 was work-related permits.

The numbers refers to residence permits granted in first instance (The Swedish Migration Agency and Swedish embassies abroad), and in higher instances (The Migration Courts and the Migration Court of Appeal).

The numbers show first-time decisions, applicants with a temporary residence permit who are granted an extension of this are not included."
