Production value of apricots from South Africa 2000-2019
The production value of apricots in South Africa declined to roughly 223 million South African Rands (approximately 13.6 million U.S. dollars) in 2018/19. The decrease followed a major peak at 267.1 million Rands (around 16.3 million U.S. dollars) in the year before. Four other peaks were registered in 2003/04, 2005/06, 2011/12, and 2014/15 with increases of 52.3 percent, 57.8 percent, 102.4 percent, and 44.6 percent, respectively. In the last two decades, the production value of apricots varied significantly, which can be linked to droughts as well as the fact that apricots may experience alternate bearing (varied production over years).
