
Production of rebate wine in South Africa 2000-2018
It is evident that since the beginning of the 21st century, the production volume of rebate wine in South Africa was subject to drastic fluctuations. As of 2018, the preliminary volume stood at 36.5 million gross liters. In 2000, the production volume of rebate wine was close to 24.83 million gross liters. This was followed by a significant drop of 67.2 percent with the volume standing at roughly 8.13 million gross liters. Moreover, between 2001 and 2004, an overall huge increase of around 950 percent occurred. This was followed by a slight decline over two years. Nonetheless, an increase of 23.6 percent was observed in 2007 in comparison with 2016, reaching a peak at about 101.49 million gross liters. Furthermore, from 2007 to 2011, production dropped to 34.22 million gross liters. From 2011 to 2018, it ranged between the 2011 value and approximately 62.26 million gross liters.
