Gender pay gap in Belgium 2007-2018, by public and private activity

Belgian women who worked in the private sector in 2018 were paid less by the hour than their male colleagues and than women who work in the public sector. The gender pay gap that women face in Belgium did decrease between 2007 and 2018. In 2018, women faced an average pay gap of 9 percent in the private sector, whereas women were ever so slightly better paid than men in the public sector. Indeed, the public sector in Belgium provided much more equal salaries for women than the private one.
