The deadliest accidental ammonium nitrate explosion worldwide in history took place in 1947 in Texas, United States, with some 581 deaths. As of August 6, 2020, the amount of deaths that were officially recorded as a consequence of the explosion that occurred in Beirut on August 4, 2020 amounted to 157. Later estimates for the death toll of the Beirut explosion were more than 180.
