Average sales price of papayas on markets in South Africa 2000-2018

The average sales price of papayas on local markets in South Africa followed a positive trend between 2000 and 2018. In the same period, the average price fluctuated between 2.15 thousand South African rands per metric ton (which is comparable to 124.9 U.S. dollars) and 9.09 thousand South African rands per metric ton (approximately 528.25 U.S. dollars). In 2017/2018, the preliminary average sales price of papaya on markets amounted to 9.09 thousand metric tons (around 528.25 U.S. dollars), which represented an increase of 8.24 percent from 2016/2017. Regardless of the comprehensive increasing trend, four dips of approximately 19, 0.13, 5.3, and 9.1 percent can be observed in 2004/2005, 2006/2007, 2012/2013, and 2014/2015, respectively, from previous years.
