In 2018/2019, the sales average price on markets of pineapples in South Africa amounted to 6,420 South African rands (400.83 U.S. dollars) per metric ton, an increase of 15.4 percent from the previous year. From 2000, the average selling has been following an increasing trend. At that year, the price was measured at 2,055 rands (128.30 U.S. dollars) per metric ton. The local market sales price is significantly affected by the amount of pineapples exported, the amount processed, along with the production seasonality and fragility.
