Major incentives encouraging use of cashless payment in Japan 2024
According to a survey conducted from February to March 2024, benefits like discounts and reward points were an incentive for around 54 percent of consumers in Japan to use cashless payment methods more frequently. Following the most recent tax hike in October 2019, the Japanese government introduced a reward point system for consumers using cashless payment methods at small and medium-sized businesses as well as food service establishments. The purpose of the measure was to stimulate consumption following price increases.
