
Production of oranges in South Africa 2000-2021
As of the marketing year 2020/2021, the preliminary production volume of oranges in South Africa was almost 1.56 million metric tons, which represented a decrease of roughly 7.8 percent from the previous year. Moreover, at the beginning of the 21st century, the volume fluctuated between 1.13 million and 1.33 million metric tons until 2004/2005. This was followed by a gradual increase, passing 1.52 million metric tons in 2008/2009. Furthermore, in 2009/2010, production dropped by nearly 10.2 percent. This was succeeded by another increase reaching close to 1.81 million metric tons, which was the peak in the period under review. Between 2014 and 2017, orange production dropped by 24.4 percent.
