Gross value of oranges in South Africa 2000-2021
Furthermore, until 2009/2010, the gross value increased but had a few drops in 2002/2003, 2004/2005, 2005/2006, and 2009/2010 with reductions of close to 7.7, 8.8, 26.1, and 15.4 percent respectively from the previous years. Also, starting 2009/2010 and until 2018/2019, the gross value increased steadily with an overall growth of 244.1 percent. It is worth noting that this increase can be linked to an increase in exports along with the rand being relatively weaker compared to currencies of trading partners. Gross value is affected by several variables like production, exports, prices on international markets and exchange rates, among others. The covid pandemic also had an effect on the gross value of South African oranges as it dropped for the first time since 2009/2010 in 2019/2020.
