The current account balance as a share of the GDP in Japan was forecast to decrease between 2024 and 2029 by in total 0.4 percentage points. This overall decrease does not happen continuously, notably not in 2026. According to this forecast in 2029, the share will have decreased for the third consecutive year to 3.12 percent. This indicator expresses the current account balance as a share of the gross domestic product. With regards to the current account balance, the International Monetary Fund states that the current account refers to all transactions other than those in financial and capital items. The gross domestic product, on the other hand, refers to the total value of final goods and services produced during a year.
