Supplementary notes

The source indicated that adult literacy rate is the percentage of people ages 15 and above who can both read and write as well as understand a short simple statement about their everyday life. It also stated that literacy rate is an outcome indicator to evaluate educational attainment. It added that data on literacy are compiled by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics based on national censuses and household surveys and, for countries without literacy data, by using the Global Age-Specific Literacy Projection Model (GALP).

Population and Housing Census is carried out every 10 years in Ghana, and the last one was in 2010. Some statistics may have been compiled using the GALP.
